THE RACE CARD IN IRISH POLITICS

On the 26th October the Irish people will elect a new president. There are six candidates one of whom is the incumbent President ,  Michael D. Higgins.  Peter Casey , who is also a candidate , is a business man with a national profile due to his stint on RTE ‘s  Dragons’ Den programme – but Peter is in trouble…….. Peter , it seems , is a racist…..

It all began when six Irish traveller families were offered accommodation in six brand new council houses which they immediately  refused because the houses did not have stables or a 1/2 acre of land which the travelers had demanded. It should be noted that there is a huge homelessness crisis in Ireland today which is getting worse by the day and which now  has reached the level of a national scandal.  Casey made the mistake of describing the situation as ‘ bonkers’ and stated in an RTE interview that the houses should be offered to the next people on the housing list. He also made the mistake of explaining that he believed that all the people of Ireland should be treated equally as oppose to being treated differently because of their ethnic background.  This of course was the proverbial red rag to the Irish media who immediately denounced Casey as racist , divisive and lacking compassion etc etc. as , of course , did all the other candidates including the President , Michael D. Higgins. He was even accused of playing the Trump card.

Remarkably , Peter Casey stood his ground and refused to apologize which of course poured more fuel on the media flames. Funnily enough the Irish people seem for the most part to agree with him or at least a significant portion of the Irish people do. Today Casey stated on the radio that he may withdraw from the race due to the attacks on his character and he reiterated his belief that all people should be treated equally and with respect and as individual Irish people rather than as members of an ethnic group.

Warwick University reschedule Anne Marie Waters

A talk by far-right politician Anne Marie Waters organised by the PPE Society has been postponed today. The “Far Right Off Campus” protest planned in response to the event has also consequently been postponed.
This afternoon, Warwick PPE posted on the event page: “This event has been rescheduled to a later date. Please look out for further information.”
When asked about the reason for rescheduling the talk, the PPE society told The Boar: “With the event occurring so early in term, some logistical issues were unable to be resolved to the high standard that we require for all our events. While the rescheduling is unfortunate, it is important that this event is done right.
“As we have previously stated, none of our speaker bookings are indicative of an endorsement of their points of view. However, we would be surprised if there were no negative responses to some of our events. The mission of our Speaker Series is not to provide only viewpoints that few will disagree with, but to provide a range of ideas to stimulate debate. We are deeply concerned with the concept of students acting as moral arbiters, deciding what is and isn’t allowed as an idea.
“This being said, we welcome and encourage all peaceful and legal protests, as these carry just as much weight in a free and healthy democracy as free speech does. However we condemn in the strongest possible terms any personal attacks on individuals within PPE Society or the Executive Team. Sending an invitation to a speaker is certainly not an act that is deserving of online abuse.”
The talk, the first in Warwick PPE’s Speaker Series, was originally scheduled for 6:00pm today. The event was entitled “Culture, Politics and Free Speech: British Society” and according to the event page, Anne Marie Waters would discuss “the state of rights and freedoms of women in the UK, the importance of defending free speech, as well as the contemporary issues of immigration and multiculturalism.”
Anne Marie Waters has been known to hold controversial views in the past, as the founder and leader of the anti-Islam party For Britain. She was also part of the UK Independence Party, standing for the party’s leadership in 2017.
The “Far-Right Off Campus!” protest, originally scheduled for today at 5:30pm, was organised by Warwick Labour, Warwick Pride, Warwick for Free Education (WFFE), Warwick Anti-Racism Society (WARSoc), and a number of other societies. As of 1pm today, 127 people had expressed they would be attending the event and 299 were interested. The event had been shared 51 times.

INTERVIEW: ANNE MARIE WATERS

ANNE MARIE WATERS is a politician comfortable with expressing uncomfortable truths. Confident and bold in her dedication to leading her political Party – For Britain – Waters has managed to draw attention to a wide variety of issues; issues that have caused a stir amongst political parties and the public alike. Waters doesn’t hold back from expressing her concerns about modern Britain and the state of the political arena. She cuts to the heart of each matter, desperately urging an unseeing public to open their minds to what, she states, is the erosion of the country she loves and wants to protect.

Frustrated at what she perceived as failures in both Labour and UKIP (having been a former candidate of both parties in the past), Waters went on to create For Britain, a party that is built on preserving British culture and national pride. Waters has come under fire from her detractors regarding her stance towards Islam and the rise of Sharia in the UK. She has expressed several major concerns, including aspects of the religion that are now affecting Britain due to high immigration. Amongst these concerns are FGM (female genital mutilation), child-marriage, sexism towards women, homophobia, the infiltration of Sharia law and animal rights (because of halal meat procedures whereby an animal isn’t stunned before being killed).

UNION FLAG BANNED IN BRITAIN

Jeff Wyatt , deputy leader of the For Britain Party , was prevented from flying the Union Flag during the Durham Miners Gala event today.  He and other For Britain members were also banned from walking to the field where the events was to take place.  In a video posted on Youtube an ex member of the light infantry can be seen explaining that while there were people at the event displaying the Palestinian flag he was not permitted to enter the event with his regimental flag. The police explained that they feared a riot would ensue if these flags had been permitted.

There is , sadly , nothing unusual about this anymore – it has become commonplace to hear of flags or banners being banned or restricted because it might ‘offend’ someone or lead to public disorder. It is truly a sign of the times.  Free speech and free assembly are  things which can no longer be taken for granted as part and parcel of a free British  society.  This is a sad day for anyone who believes in freedom or nation. And what would the dead , who gave everything they ever had to preserve our freedom have to say ………. It matters not , not anymore.  A miners gala and a union flag – what could be more British and more hopelessly old-fashioned ?  And what of Treason , or is that just a word in some old book that nobody reads or cares about any more ?

Only time will answer these questions – and time is running out…………
